On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, I returned to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and to my office in Hunt Library on the fourth floor of the Student Union. I had last been in the library on Friday, April 3, 2020. At the time, we thought we might be out of the building for only a few weeks. It turned out to be about 14 months.
I entered through the main doors on the third floor. I greeted the staff sitting behind the large BORROW Desk, whom I had not seen in person since my last week in the building.
But first, coffee. I caught up with the Starbucks staff and got my iced mocha latte. Finally, I settled in to my office that I really had missed.
The next day, Wednesday, June 2, 2021, I walked a different route into the Student Union so I could see the new construction. A new residence hall (left) had been built and a new fitness center (rear) had been started.
On the walk in I took a few minutes to enjoy the perfect weather and the peaceful campus.
Hunt Library, on the the fourth floor of the Student Union was bright but empty.
Wednesday was a quieter day with fewer people working in my area.
On Thursday I expected more people being in the office in my department, so on the way in to campus I bought a dozen of doughnuts.
Life was still not back to normal, but it was great to be back in my office.
